Some of the best bedroom decorating ideas do not cost an arm and a leg. Before planning your makeover the first thing you should do is give the room a total cleaning from top to bottom. Remove all clutter. If an item doesn't belong in a bedroom then relocate it to it's proper place. Remove computers and electronics as it is proven to interfere with peaceful sleep to have those types of items in your bedroom. Your bedroom should be about relaxation and sleep.
Take a look at every trinket and knick knack in the room. Are they there just because you have them and hate to throw anything out or are they there because you truly love them and enjoy looking at them? Only items that you are proud of should be kept. Donate some items or give to friends who have admired them. The rest can be tossed out. You want a clean slate to start your makeover.
Once the clean and de-clutter is done I always suggest you walk into your bedroom with an objective eye as if you were visiting the room for the first time. Does it feel like a quiet retreat? Does it reflect your personality? Sometimes the de-clutter is all it takes and you fall in love with your room again. If that is the case treat yourself to a few new accessories and you are done. For most of us though it is time for a change as we have gotten bored with the color palette and decor style.
First, take a look at the bed. It is the focal point of the room. Do you like the headboard? If not, there are many ways to very inexpensively make it look like you got new furniture. Upholstered headboards are not only trendy, they are practical and inexpensive. With a sheet of plywood, a sheet of foam and a cheap upholstery fabric remnant you can create a unique and stylish headboard that is easy to update anytime you want to change the look of your room. Other budget friendly headboard ideas are old doors or shutters picked up at flea markets or second hand stores. Paint them to co-ordinate with your room and attach them to the wall at the head of your bed.
Next let's look at your bed linens. If you are planning to purchase new sheets wait until there is a white sale at your local department or bedding store then buy the best quality you can possible afford at the time. Stick to very neutral solid colors. White, tan or gray are safe bets when buying sheets. Those colors will co-ordinate with almost any color palette and will not need to be replaced every time you redecorate your room. The same rule applies when purchasing or making your comforter or duvet cover and draperies. These are the most expensive items to replace and you should look at them as the backdrop for your decorating project. Add the pizazz and punch to the room with less expensive accessories.
Now that you have the essentials looked after it is time to have some fun with the decorating. Choose your color palette. Ask yourself what mood you want your room to have. Do you want tranquility or drama? For tranquil settings you will want to choose a monochromatic color scheme in quiet paler shades. For drama choose contrasting colors. If you are stuck on choosing a dominant color take a look inside your closet. Most people choose colors of clothing that they like or feel they look good in. This may give you a hint on what colors you truly enjoy.
When decorating a space, divide the colors in the space into components of 60 percent of a dominant color, 30 percent of a secondary color and 10 percent of an accent color. The walls will most likely be the majority, the bedding and draperies would represent the secondary color and accessories such as a floral arrangements, art or throw pillows would make up the rest. The colors are properly balanced and there is a shot of color (the 10 percent color) for interest. Color Tip: If you have a small room, don’t paint it white to make it seem bigger. Instead go with the architecture and paint it a rich, warm color to make it cozier. Let your big rooms expand with light, let your small rooms wrap you up and nurture you.
Paint can have the most dramatic effect on your makeover and will change the entire feel of your room. It is also one of the least expensive changes to make. A gallon of paint and an afternoon of labor may be just what the doctor ordered to fix your tired bedroom.
Choosing accessories is the final touch that will transform your bedroom into YOUR space. When selecting fabrics for throw pillows and accessories remember that adding texture also adds interest for the eye. Try choosing several textures and patterns all in the same color. This is very pleasing to the eye. Then give in to that one piece of fabric that is fun and colorful to add pizazz and personality to the room.

Bedroom Decorating Ideas:Exotic Romance Moroccan/Asian Theme on a Budget

Creating an exotic retreat is very easy and inexpensive when you use saris to decorate. You can usually find gorgeous silk embroidered saris for sale in eBay and other sources for under $20. Each sari is approx. 46" wide and about 6 yards long. This gives you ample materials for a wide range of luxurious accessories. By suspending two wooden dowels from the ceiling, one at the foot of the bed and one at the head, you can drape a sari over the rods to create a very opulent canopy over the bed.
Paint your walls a rich jewel tone to compliment your fabrics. Deep red, purples and midnight blues work well. Cut the sari in half and sew rod pockets into the top to create airy sheer silk drapery panels.
Use the various patterns in a typical sari to create a variety of pillows and cushions, table runners, mirror swags and even bedding. The possibilities are only as limited as your imagination!
Remember, you are trying to create a very opulent retreat so do not forget the embellishments such as tassels, fringe and braid.
Add a few lacquer vases and chests or pewter accessories and you have an oasis fit for the king and queen!

Bedroom Decorating Ideas: Easy Trash Can Night Tables

You can create a bedside table with just two round pieces of plywood (one smaller than the other) and a trashcan. The larger piece should be used as the tabletop and the smaller piece should fit snuggly inside the opening of the trashcan. Glue the smaller piece of plywood to the bottom of the slightly larger piece. Then cover it with a ready-made tablecloth. Or cover with an inexpensive neutral-colored tablecloth and drape a home-made square table runner (using an inexpensive $5 remnant piece of high end luxury fabric) over it. Keep in mind that you can use the trash can for storage.
This is just one of the little bedroom decorating ideas that can be made on a budget to make a dramatic change to the ambiance of the room.
